Seasons work off a calendar, and there are premade holidays from the get go, including a valentine’s day, Halloween/thanks giving for the American folk, Christmas and New Year’s. Be cautious though, with great power comes great responsibility and you don’t want to kill your sim, do you? Get struck by lightning, overheat or freeze and your sim may suffer a painful death. If you do not like what the weather is doing, you are able to change the weather to suit your needs, via the weather machine. Likewise, in the winter, you need to stay toasty and warm! There is an in-game thermometer, allowing you to monitor the temperatures. If it gets hot, your sim will get hot, they will become uncomfortable and hygiene levels will decrease, until you put on a change of clothes and/or have a wash.
With each season, comes different temperatures, which plays a role during the game. It’s been a while since I played The Sims, so after a fresh install, I went about creating myself, in Sim form. The latest expansion, Seasons, was released 22nd June and we got sent a copy to try out!Īs expected, the Seasons expansion pack revolves around the four seasons of the year, winter, spring, summer & autumn, and includes several new activities and items for you to play with. Since release, EA have released five expansion packs, several ‘game packs’ and a lot more ‘stuff packs’, which see’s players return to the classic game.

Extreme temperatures confer no benefits to your Sims, so you can disable it if you find it too difficult or annoying to keep your Sims comfortable. This option is a Boolean either temperature effects are on or off. Similarly, you can disable temperature effects on Sims. For example, Sims playing in a storm may have fun jumping in puddles, but they put themselves at risk at being struck by lightning. This is a double-edged sword: precipitation can lead to new activities but also can increase discomfort in Sims. You can downplay these options to lessen the power of any storms, or even disable precipitation altogether.

By default, the full "rain and thunderstorm" option and "snow and blizzard" option will be enabled. You can also customize extremes for Weather and Temperature on the options screen. If you have a holiday planned for the end of a season, then shorten the season length, the holiday may be deleted, forcing you to set it up again. Expanding season lengths adds time to the "end" of a season, but shrinking a season length may mess up any Holidays you have planned. This selection does not impact your Sims' life spans, so a long season length with a short life span means some Sims may not live to see too many full calendar years.īe careful when changing the length of seasons. If you last saved on an in-game Saturday, whichever season you choose for your first will last only a single day before rolling over.įrom the main menu, you can set the season lengths to be 7 days, 14 days, or 28 days. If you load up a game saved prior to the installation of Seasons, depending on what in-game day it is, the season may not last long. Note that seasons always start on Sunday. In order to do any customization, you must first load the save file in question. This is because season options are tied to a specific save file. Note that the Seasons option is grayed out if you're on the main menu and haven't loaded a game yet. However, season length can be changed by going to the options menu, then Game Options, then Seasons. (Note that doesn't mean you'll be playing in the full season necessarily, as you will soon see.) That initial choice must be confirmed and cannot be changed directly.īy default, seasons last seven in-game days, and thus the full year lasts 28. Upon first loading into a neighborhood, whether you're creating a new family or loading a save game from prior to the expansion, you'll be prompted to enter what season you wish to start with, as seen in the screenshot above. Veterans of Sims 2 may remember that game's Seasons expansion allowed you to customize the rotation of seasons, including skipping some altogether or running them backward, but that feature is not present in Sims 4.
